Club Information

Middleton sub aqua club is BSAC club 905.

We are a small, friendly diving club based in Middleton, just north of Manchester. The club is not a commercial organisation and we are run by the nine committee members who are elected from club membership by all members each year at the AGM. The committee includes the diving officer who is an experienced diver and looks after the club diving including safety. We do not get paid for teaching people to dive we do it for fun.

The club was established in December 1978 from a small group of like minded divers that lived locally.  We were initially based in Heywood and called Hopwood SAC. Using Gaskil pool, until moving to Middleton baths in 1985 and changing our name to Middleton SAC in early 1987.

We have an average membership of 20 – 25 people of mixed ages current youngest is 17, oldest mid fifties. The membership make up at present is mainly male with three female members.

With committee meeting being held every six weeks. With re-election of committee members taking place every January. All club members are invited to attend every meeting.

We normally meet each Friday to discuss club matters over a beer and conduct pool training on Thursdays. Pool training will normally take place in Oldham pool since we lost the old pool in Middleton and the new pool is too shallow.

As we are not a large club, it is not safe or practical to take on a large number of trainees at once and therefore our training intake is restricted. We offer a first come first learn policy but will be happy to tell you when we can fit you in. We can manage the occasional group come and try sessions as we do for the local scout groups. Group come and try sessions can only be accommodated by prior arrangement.
